Short-Term Creative Mentoring

(aka Creative Unblocking & Breakthroughs)

As creatives, we all have projects that sing to our soul, but we put them on the back burner, promising ourselves we’ll get to them later. If you’re anything like me, some of those projects may have been stuck in a holding pattern or collecting dust for years (even decades). The reasons we’ve chosen to put our precious creative project on the sidelines vary.

We resist. We procrastinate. We avoid. We make up excuses. We tell ourselves stories. We justify. We defer. We abandon our creative project, and in doing so, we abandon a sliver of ourselves.

We often think (and may have been conditioned to think) that something else is more important, and we choose that other thing over “our special thing.” We think that choosing ourself, or our art, our project is selfish.

But why do we think that or believe that?

You think you want to create, do, be, or have this. You say you want this. But do you really?

You may even tell others about it. And secretly, you may start to wonder if you really want this, then why aren’t you doing it?

In my experience, the usual suspects are:

  • Fear (of being seen, failure, success, the unknown, sacrifice required, etc.)
  • Rejection, criticism, and judgment
  • Visibility anxiety
  • Feeling undeserving
  • Performance anxiety (can you really do this)
  • Not knowing how
  • Thinking you need to know all the steps first
  • Trust issues
  • Vulnerability
  • Comparison
  • Loss of some kind (having to give up something or someone you love in order to have the creative life you desire)
  • Being alone
  • Debilitating beliefs about yourself
  • Too young, too old, too much, not enough
  • A creative wound you received (from a parent, teacher, friend, or authority figure)
  • Overriding need to stay safe

I wrestle with this myself and know how frustrating it can be. That’s why I decided to offer this short-term Creative Mentoring/Unblocking/Breakthrough program.

Together, we can get to the underlying reason why you are stuck and dismantle it, dissolve the blocks, and reframe the beliefs. And even answer the questions,

  • “Is this something I still want to do or create, or is it something I think I should do?”
  • “Is this project worth investing my time and energy in seeing it through?”
  • “Does this project still excite me?” (note: excitement can sometimes feel like fear or uncertainty, so learn to discern the difference!)

Sometimes, creative projects have expiration dates. They may have been important to who you were, but who you are now desires something else. And that’s perfectly fine!

Whether your special project is writing (a book, story, poem, or blog), art or crafts of any kind, performing, speaking, creating a class or workshop, songwriting, music, or any other creative project that you desire to birth, this mentoring program can help you.

This is not a coworking space where we work on your project during our sessions together.

This is you and me getting into the weeds, going deep, and unhooking you from the thing that is getting in your way and holding you back from creating.

Is it a permanent fix? It depends on you and the tenacity of the gremlins that hold your creative expression hostage.

As one of my mentors used to say: “New level, new devil.” The meaning of this is when you reach a new level in your work and creative expression, a new gremlin may pop up to put speed bumps in your path. No worries, we can deal with them too.

Why short-term?

Most creatives I know have commitment and or time issues. Six months can feel like a lifetime, twelve months like an eternity. If it is a long program, there’s a huge chance that you won’t do it. You worry you’ll get bored, lose interest, or worse, give up. If it’s only a few weeks, you may actually show up and shift some of that shit that’s getting in your way. Plus, I tend to work fast.

Why work with me?

Mentoring is another one of my gifts. Over the years, in my corporate jobs and private practice, I’ve come to realize that I easily slip into the role of mentor. I’m a natural counselor, and I’d wind up mentoring my employees, co-workers, and even a boss or two over the course of my corporate life. My office was the place where people would just drop in, sit down, and spill their guts (aka talk about their lives and dreams).

Maybe it’s because I’m very intuitive, a really good listener… and am repeatedly told that I am wise. Even as a child, I was told that I was “wise beyond my years.” This makes perfect sense because I’ve always known that I’m an “old soul.” I guess I’ve learned from my varied experiences from many lifetimes as well as this one… and acquired knowledge, insights, and wisdom along the way that helps me help others. Been there, done that, and have the T-shirt.

I hear you. I see you. I listen to what you say, how you say it, the words you choose. I read the energy in your emotions and feelings and pick up on what is really going on. What the issue really is. How you keep sabotaging yourself. The mind games you play with yourself. I receive input from your higher self, your angels and guides, your past lives, your energy field, and my own awesome Spiritual Advisory Council (angels & guides).

I create a safe, supportive, and non-judgment space for you to shift the shit you are dealing with that keeps you stuck, unhappy, lost, or confused.

If you are willing to show up and work with me, we’ll uncover the wounds and hurts to be healed, the beliefs you bought as true but are not, and the mindset and thought patterns that are getting in your way. And how all these things run the show and make decisions for you.

Then we’ll begin to dismantle, release, and heal that crap so you can let go of what is holding you back and preventing you from starting or completing the creative project you say you want to finish. Or dissolve the blocks that get in the way of you choosing to engage with your art, your writing, and your creations.

This might be for you if…

  • You are a creative of any flavor who is trying to pull their head out of their butt and get their work out into the world.
  • You are a creative who is feeling a bit stuck or confused and would appreciate an infusion of clarity, direction, and guidance to get their project or business back in the flow again… or take it up to the next level.
  • You just need a fresh set of eyes or someone to bounce your ideas off of in order to organize, make sense of, or shift whatever has you stuck.
  • You feel blocked, anxious, uncertain, overwhelmed, or terrified when you think about working on your creative project. (Usually, the sign that it is exactly what you need to do!)
  • You are starting something new and feeling uncertain about the next steps to take.
  • You always do things for everyone else but ignore your creative expression.
  • You want to work on your creative project but first you need to do laundry, clean the house, run errands, do this, that, and the other thing.
  • You constantly compare yourself and your creations to others, thinking you’re not good enough.
  • The thought of working on your creative project compels you to binge-watch TV, doom-scroll social media, or play computer games. (Guilty of playing computer solitaire, word twister, and Mahjong as a distraction.)
